Content Aware Image Sizing - draft

News — christian @ 11:07 pm

This video from Youtube demonstrates an interesting paper for resizing images, presented at Siggraph 2007. Real smart technology.
The technique is to combat the shortcomings of the crop tool, and resizing with correct aspect ratio.

It works by analyzing an image when resizing and finding the areas of the image, which are not likely to be ‘missed’ when cut away.
The magic is in not using straight lines, but rather ‘canyons’ when removing image information. This way they can both increase and decrase te size of the image, on the fly.
